Malagasy Brazier
2019 — Oil on paper mounted on canvas
The Malagasy brazier (fatapera in Malagasy) is an indispensable cooking utensil on the red island. Crafted from sheet metal, it quickly acquires a beautiful patina. Over the embers, one places the rice pot or the dish to simmer. This modest object appeals to me through its simplicity and incredible endurance.
